The Story of Shamba Creek Farm (Part 1)
We "found" our land in late 2015 and truthfully, I cannot explain how we found it, other than it was revealed to us by God. We came back from East Africa in the Spring of 2011, and we knew we need space/elbow-room because we were exhausted from the hustle and bustle of Nairobi. As we searched for space, nothing really stood out. Adrienne had always had a vision of running water on the property, and all of the land that we found with a creek was too expensive. So, we settled on a lovely 1 acre plot in Rogers. It was wonderful, and we loved the home. The location was great but we continued to long for some real open spaces. Our desire was about 10 acres, but the running water continued to be an issue.
4 years later, as we continued to search Benton County to the west, land prices continued to climb. For some unknown reason, Adrienne looked towards Pea Ridge one day. A property showed up in Missouri. It was way outside of our price range but the first photo on the listing was of a lovely creek.
As Adrienne read the listing, it said that the owners were willing to subdivide the property because a road ran through the property which made for an easy division. However, the side with the creek was 79 acres! That was WAY outside of our comfort zone, what in the world would we do with all of that land?
Over the next several days, we kept being drawn to the listing. Adrienne decided to call and inquire about the property. After speaking with the son of the owners, we were even more interested. It seemed that the Lord was doing something amazing. We set up a time to go and look at the land.
Y'all, it was love at first site! The creek ran through the front of the property and the land was basically untouched. It had been grazed by cattle in years past when the owners parents were alive but now stood empty. It was a beautiful and amazing mixture of pasture, woods and hills.
We took a few weeks to pray about purchasing the land, and it quickly became clear that this was the place that God had for us.
We took a leap of faith on the land, even though it was WAY bigger than we wanted, it is located in Missouri, there is an enormous volume of water running through the creek and it is 2 1/2 miles down a dirt road. We had no idea at that time what we were going to do with the land! There was no business plan, only faith as small as a mustard seed that this was what we were supposed to do. We purchased the land in February of 2016.
